Dust
The week after his death, Jim Howard watches his adult stepchildren, Honey and Dust, reunite at his funeral after living on opposite ends of the country for ten years. The family converges at the Howard Big House, the last pre-Civil War plantation home in Ellis County, Texas. When Jim's daughter, Nora, finds a secret room filled with books, runaway slaves come out of the historical woodwork, and Jim watches as the Howard Big House springs to life in ways he never thought possible.
The idea for Dust was born when author, Penelope Przekop, and her brother met in Dallas to attend their stepfather's funeral, and also support their grieving, histrionic mother. Much of the book's content is based on events that occurred that week. Dust was published following the tragic death of Przekop's brother in 2012.
